The Refresher in Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention (R-FPFF) course is a mandatory short-duration training designed for seafarers seeking to renew the validity of their Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF) certification. This course aligns with the requirements of STCW Convention, 1978,and Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) guidelines.

1 STCW 2010 Manila Amendments
Introduced mandatory refresher training every 5 years for Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF) under Regulation VI/1.
Applicable globally from 1 January 2017.
2 DGS Training Circular No. 6 of 2018 (Dated 21 March 2018)
Made it compulsory for Indian seafarers to undergo Refresher Courses, including R-FPFF, every 5 years to maintain validity of BST and FPFF certifications.
Introduced combined certification format for BST and associated refresher courses.
3. DGS Order No. 11 of 2022 (Dated 22 March 2022)
Discontinued the issuance of Part A/Part B certificates introduced during the COVID 19 pandemic.
All refresher courses, including R-FPFF, now lead to a single combined valid BST certificate upon completion.
Important
Seafarers are required to renew their FPFF competency every 5 years by attending this refresher course, as per international and national maritime regulations.
